About

Tanya Flemister is an award winning commercial and documentary photographer, whose emotional and often stoic style resonates throughout her imagery regardless of subject matter. Each of her images tell a story; a secret glimpse of a moment. The intimate qualities of her imagery echos in a viewer.
Through out her career she has been honored with several distinctions including being named by Guess and W Magazine as one of the next up and coming fashion photographer. She has been honored to have her work shown at the ACCD and Zephyr Gallery in Los Angeles and the Spike Gallery in Chelsea, New York.
Much like the abstract expressionist painters, Tanya’s narrative imagery captures the emotional and expressive sides of the artist’s thoughts on a subject rather than a representation of the reality of the event. She is always striving to capture emotion rather then illustrate it, in the hopes that the viewer will not just see her images, but feel them as well.
Loosing a life long friend to brain cancer in 2006, caused a change of priorities to Tanya's personal works, creating a momentum and affinity for shooting documentary. Tanya feels the need to tell the stories of people that can tell them themselves; stories the world needs to know. She is dedicated to making images that matter; images that can help make a difference. Tanya is currently pursuing trips to Africa and the Middle East, to better understand preventable deaths due to all causes, from disease to war.
